CONGRATULATIONS JOHN  BALLENTYNE
The Solway Sharks are also pleased to announce that defenceman John and Heather Ballentyne became the proud parents of baby Andrew at 2:12am on Tuesday the 8th of April. Andrew weighed in at 7lbs 15oz and both mother and son are doing well.

IIAN DEFTY
The Solway Sharks regret to announce that Ian Defty, who had been a stalwart member of the Solway Sharks Ice Hockey Club this season, sadly passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Ian was an exceptional servant to the club in his short time with the Sharks and has been a tremendous influence in the resurgence of the team after its early season struggles. In his career Ian, a native of County Durham, also played British National League ice hockey with the Dumfries Border Vikings, the Kingston Hawks, Hull Thunder, Guildford Flames and the Newcastle Vipers. A solid defenceman, Ian well liked and respected throughout the game.

Our thoughts at this time are with Ian's family and friends but we would also like to thank the supporters of rival teams who have already expressed their condolences to the club and to Ian's family and friends at this sad and difficult time.

The funeral will take place at 1pm on Friday the 11th of April at Saint Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Meadowfield, Langley Moor, County Durham, DH7 8JJ.

CONGRATULATIONS ROSS McMEEKEN
Congratulations go to Ross McMeeken, Captain of the Junior Sharks Under 20’s, who has been chosen as a Lyner for this years Guid Nychburris celebrations in June.

Ross is following in the footsteps of another Solway Shark player Cammy Currie who was Cornet in 2005. Ross has iced for the senior Solway Sharks on occasions this season as well as the Scottish Warriors Under 19 squad.

Ross says “I am a novice rider so please cut some slack if I’m not doing very well but it should all be a good laugh. I am honoured to get the opportunity to be a Lynor this year and am really looking forward to it.” Congratulations Ross from all at Solway Sharks.
