Born in Saulte Ste. Marie, Ontario, Kevin came over to the
United Kingdom in 1985 to play for the Ayr Bruins at Likekiln
Road and became a scoring sensation for the Bruins. Kevin must
have told Keith Gretzky (Wayne Gretzkys' brother) how good
(cough) Limekiln Road was as he came over to play there in 1989
for Ayr Raiders.
Wherever Kevin went it seemed
that he could score goals for fun. His best scoring season being
in 1987-88 when he scored 148 goals and 104 assists for Telford
Tigers, wracking up 252 points in only 29 games. He also accrued
106 penalty minutes that season, he's calmed down a lot now then
!!! In 1991-92 he went to Basingstoke where he would stay for
seven years, four with the Beavers and then three with the
Bison. In 1996-97 Basingstoke Bison joined the Superleague
and Kevin played with them in their first two seasons before
there before he joined fellow Superleague side Newcastle
Riverkings for the 19998-99 season.
In his career Kevin has been
capped 58 times for Great Britain and has been inducted to the
Hall of Fame. Basingstoke Bison retired his number 10 shirt in
2004-05 as their all time leading scorer and Kevin has other
league winning achievements too numerous to mention here.
Solway Sharks coach Kevin Doherty
persuaded Kevin to come out of retirement to play in the
Scottish National League and the Northern League during the
2006-07 season and we are all delighted that he is to rejoin the
club for the 2007-08 season.
From the start of the 2006-07
season his tem mates have been saying that it's like having an
extra man on the ice when Kevin's on. In the match programmes at
away games it's frequently written how much they enjoy watching
him play. As everyone knows, one man doesn't make a team, but
there's no doubt that the players have learned a lot from
playing beside him and have benefited from the calming influence
and experience that he brings to the team.
