The
Solway Sharks, sponsored by the Black Bull of Moffat, faced up
to Dundee Stars on Saturday night in the first game of a
double-header against our rivals from Tayside. Both sides were
depleted manpower-wise although the shortened squads put on an
entertaining show as the Sharks edged past the Stars by three
goals to two.
Terry Robertson (pictured
left) provided the winning marker while the hosts were
short-handed with Chris Gracie sitting in the penalty box having
received two minutes for slashing. Robertson did some great work
as he followed up his first attempt on goal to fire in the
rebound and send the Sharks into a three to one lead at the
half-way point of the second period. Dundee pulled one back in
the third but the Sharks held on for a deserved victory.
The match was sponsored by
Subway and Darren Irving presented the Man of the Match award to
netminder Matthew Michie for the Stars and netminder Dewar
Anderson for the Sharks. Matthew Michie saved thirty-nine of the
forty-two of the shots he faced while Dewar Anderson saved forty-two
of the forty-four shots that he faced (Save percentage 95.45%)Sharks statistics were:
Chris Gracie, Gordon Horne and Terry Robertson all one goal and no assists,
Bari McKenzie 0+2, Mark Gallagher and Shaun Kippin both 0+1.
