The
Solway Sharks, sponsored by the Black Bull of Moffat, got their Scottish Cup campaign off to a flier with an
8-3 victory over the Edinburgh Capitals. The second leg of this
first round tie is scheduled for late January at Murrayfield Ice
Rink where the Sharks will be looking another strong performance
to progress to the quarter finals and a date with the Paisley
Pirates. Tim McKay led
the Sharks to victory at Dumfries Ice Bowl in this tie with two
goals while Kevin Conway, Chris Gracie, Terry Robertson, Shaun
Kippin, John Downes and Bari McKenzie added singles. Bob
Chalmers turned playmaker on the night, while not netting
himself he contributed with four assists. In the Sharks net
Scott McMeeken saved twenty-three of the twenty-six of the shots
he faced. Overall the Sharks out shot the Capitals forty-four to
twenty-six. Steven
Lynch, Ian Beattie and Iain E(?) replied for the visitors.
The game was sponsored by Dumfries & Galloway
Council and Colin Freeman presented the man of the match
awards. John Ballentyne (pictured above) received the award for
the Solway Sharks.
