The Solway Sharks, sponsored by the Black
Bull Hotel of Moffat, experienced another mixed bag of results
last weekend in a home double-header as they won 13-3 over the
Billingham Bombers but took a pounding from the Fife Flyers the
very next day 8-1.
On Saturday, the Sharks hosted Billingham
in a four-point contest in the Northern League and despite some
early Bombers pressure the home side took a 5-0 lead in the
first period and ended all hopes for the visitors.
The forward line of Kevin Conway
(pictured above left), Bari
McKenzie, and Mark Gallagher combined for eight goals and 20
points as the Sharks improved their Northern League record to
three wins with two losses.
Sharks were backstopped by Scott McMeeken
who turned away over thirty shots on his way to the victory.
Back-up Chris McKay kept a clean sheet in his ten minutes work.
Dupont Teijin Films were the match sponsor
for this game and on their behalf David Edgar presented the man
of the match award to Bari McKenzie for the Sharks and for the
Bombers Paul Windridge.
Sharks scorers against Billingham were as follows: Bari McKenzie 4
+ 5, Kevin Conway 3+3, Cammy Currie 2+2, Mark Gallagher 1+4, Corrie Telfer
1+1, Raymond Haslam 1+0, Steven Gaughan 1+0, Robert Chalmers 0+3, Wayne Slater
0+3, Alan Crane 0+2
