The
Solway Sharks, sponsored by the Black Bull of Moffat, had a
convincing twelve-one win at home over the Kilmarnock Avalanche
on Saturday night improving their record to six wins and two
losses in the Scottish National League.
After a shaky start the home side held a slender
one-nil lead at the end of the first period despite out-shooting
the Galleon side eighteen to four. Kevin Conway notching the
only strike after nineteen minutes.
The home side continued to roll along slowly
through the second frame outscoring Kilmarnock four to one to
take a five-one lead into the final twenty minutes. Youngster
Struan Tonnar started the proceedings with a fine individual
effort after some hard forechecking on the Avalanche defence
that made the visitors cough the puck up in their own zone. Euan
Edgar then followed Tonnar onto the score sheet when he
continued his recent goal-scoring exploits with a marker just
over a minute later to make it three-nil. Bari McKenzie and
Corrie Telfer added to the Sharks' tally near the end of the
period on either side of a lone reply by Kilmarnocks' Alan
Maitland.
The third period saw the Sharks finally get on track and beat
former Sharks netminder Malcolm Anderson seven times from
twenty-six on goal. Tim McKay with two Telfer, Ross Edgar,
Raymond Haslam, Cammy Currie and McKenzie provided the scoring.
Scott McMeeken and Dewar Anderson shared the win in the Sharks'
net.
